Hampton Guide and Scout Hall

Thursday mornings
11:30 - 12:30

This class is for you if you have reduced mobility, medical needs or physical limitations which prevent you from practising a mat-based yoga class. The following will be welcome:

  • Any condition that makes getting up and down from/to the floor difficult/impossible
  • Any condition that makes standing difficult/impossible
  • Arthritis and joint pain
  • Chronic fatigue, ME, fibromyalgia
  • Dizziness/vertigo
  • Wheelchair users
  • MS
  • COPD/asthma
  • Recovery from surgery
  • Other conditions too!

What you can look forward to

Adaptive chair based yoga for beginners and experienced yoga students: each of us practising in a way that feels good for our own body, senses and mind. You can expect a steady and mindful approach to a spectrum of yoga practices, with modifications and variations to suit all needs.

This is a 60 minute class; within that time there will be some talking, some movement and some stillness. There will be no video replay for this class but it may be possible to have an audio recording of the end of the class relaxation to deepen your practice at home.

You can expect a carefully planned class each week, with attention given to the need for balance: balance between progression and consolidation, between variety and familiarity, movement and stillness, energising practices and restorative practices. Each week will be different to the previous.

Classes are themed with each class building on previous learning to offer depth and progression for those who want it; each week, however, can stand alone so it is not crucial to attend every class within a block. Themes vary and are often suggested by yogis attending the class. Some popular course themes have been: Nurturing the Spine; The Subtle Body Energy System; Foundations; Yoga for Nervous System Regulation; Yoga Legends.

Occasional handouts for popular practices – ask me.

What Yogis Say

Lucy's approach is a gentle one. She understands that everyone has reached a different stage in their levels of fitness and accommodates any incapacity by suggesting ways to complete a movement without stressing an already stressed body. The simplicity of sitting on a yoga block or a chair, or maybe standing instead of kneeling can be all it takes. However, it doesn't take very long until non-kneelers are able to kneel again. And she does this without making you feel like a failure or 'past it’. - AF
I wanted to say how much I’ve been enjoying this last term. I’ve surprised myself in that I’ve really loved the detail we’ve been looking at re the spine (most unlike me as I’m usually a big picture person) but I have found it so useful for my back and how it’s enhancing my yoga practice. I’ve even been doing the 5 minute back moving sequence every day and that’s not something I’ve ever achieved on a regular basis before ! So a big thank you for your great teaching and class structures - I know you put a lot of prep into your work. - YR
I have attended Lucy's weekly yoga classes for several years, and I can thoroughly recommend them for anyone looking for a refreshing, beneficial experience which combines mobility exercises, breath-work, meditation, and relaxation. Lucy is very attentive and aware of the differing needs of everyone in her classes, without being at all intrusive or over-bearing. The new Sunday morning workshops in Little Comberton Village Hall are a welcome addition to her offerings, and provide an opportunity to go deeper into some of the more subtle aspects of yoga. All in all, if you're looking for authentic yoga taught by an expert teacher, this is it. - JC
